From laid-back to challenging

Mountain biking in the shadow of the Matterhorn

With 100 kilometres of signposted trails that cater to every level – some fast, some steep, yet others technical – Zermatt is a veritable El Dorado for cycling professionals, enthusiasts and families. All routes lie between 1,400 and 3,100 metres above sea level – and the best way to reach them is via the Riffelhaus, situated at 2,500 metres above sea level.

Cycling in Zermatt

You can easily take your bike with you on the Gornergrat Bahn, and before you know it, you’re at the top and speeding downhill on two wheels again. Of course, there’s nothing stopping you from putting your fitness levels to the test and going up the mountain on your bike too! Thrill-seekers can get an adrenaline rush on the trails, while hobby cyclists can enjoy a tour of the Schwarzsee lake.

Perfect for beginners

Anyone who wants to see whether mountain biking is right for them is in good hands at Bike School Zermatt. You can book a private lesson or try a beginners’ course as part of a group. There are courses for kids as well, and if the parents are already confident cyclists themselves, the staff at the bike school know all the best freeride trails in Zermatt. Bike School Zermatt is a partner of Riffelhaus 1853

Special offers for families

Sporting fun on two wheels for adults and children 9 years and older: glide across Alpine meadows around the Schwarzsee lake on super-fat tyres with a dirt scooter or fly down from Sunnegga to Zermatt on a kickbike.
